Designed for two photographers, the Tripod House is nestled into the rolling hills of Portland’s Hillsdale neighborhood. As a collection of three pods, each with a distinct function, organized around a central courtyard, the home emphasizes its wooded surroundings through the use of glass thresholds and outdoor living spaces. The offset volumes of the home create the secluded north facing courtyard, serving as a sanctuary from the surrounding city. The main spaces of the house offer large, south-facing picture windows, providing views of greenery both on site and of Portland’s West Hills beyond. The experience of the home unfolds much like a photographer moving through a landscape- spaces and rooms are discovered on the path of circulation and views are framed, like the lens of a camera, through the full height openings.
