IIDA Design Excellence Awards “Hospitality - Honorable Mention”

Stepping into Hypnos Coffee, nestled in the heart of the North Williams neighborhood, one instantly senses a change of pace and a sense of calm. Natural light filters through the space, casting beautiful patterns of light and shadow on the café’s timeless natural materials. The space feels warm, sophisticated, and inviting, featuring textural wood and organic forms that elevate the café experience.

Upon entering, visitors are fully embraced by an ash-wrapped coffee bar, which provides a meaningful connection to the natural materials within the space. A warm cream canvas creates a backdrop for the client to highlight their products, along with their antique collection, which is showcased within the space. The space is simple but impactful; there’s a sense of movement as the coffee bar leads you through the café.

The client’s vision was to cultivate a unique destination where people want to visit—a space to celebrate all identities and make everyone feel welcome. The café invites both community members and traveling guests to feel at home while staying inspired. Fieldwork created an environment that is comforting and encourages creativity with a level of sophistication.
